At PowerLabs, we offer a range of tuning services to meet the needs of every vehicle enthusiast. Whether you have a stock car, bolt-on modifications, or extensive aftermarket upgrades, we have the right tuning solution for you. In this guide, we'll compare street tuning, remote tuning, and dyno tuning to help you choose the option that best suits your requirements.
Street tuning is a load-and-go style tune designed for stock or bolt-on modified vehicles. It requires minimal to no revisions and is suitable for getting your vehicle running and driving smoothly. However, it's important to note that street tuning is not an in-depth, all-inclusive tune for highly modified vehicles. It serves as a basic starting point for optimizing performance.
Remote tuning allows us to tune your vehicle from a distance using a remote tuning device such as the HP Tuners MPVI3 or RTD. With remote tuning, we can send and receive tune files and datalogs via email or over the cloud using the Tune Delivery Network (TDN) app.
Remote tuning is a convenient option for many applications. However, it's important to note that for remote tuning to take place, the customer must have a compatible remote tuning device. Additionally, in many cases, an aftermarket wideband sensor must be installed in the vehicle to fully complete the remote tuning process.

Dyno tuning is our most comprehensive and precise tuning option. It involves utilizing a dynamometer (dyno) to simulate a multitude of operational conditions in a controlled environment and fine-tune various engine parameters.
Dyno tuning allows us to optimize your vehicle's performance by making precise adjustments to fuel maps, ignition timing, and other relevant parameters. With real-time data analysis and multiple revisions, we can achieve maximum power, torque, and drivability. Dyno tuning is particularly recommended for vehicles with extensive modifications beyond stock or bolt-on upgrades.
Bench flashing is another tuning method that involves the direct modification of your vehicle's ECU (Engine Control Unit) on a bench or workbench. This process typically requires the removal of the ECU from the vehicle and connecting it to specialized equipment for tuning purposes.
While bench flashing allows for comprehensive adjustments to the ECU's tuning parameters, it's essential to note that each time a tuning adjustment is required, the ECU must be removed from the vehicle and sent to PowerLabs. Furthermore, without the datalogging capabilities present with Street, Remote, and Dyno tuning options, any adjustments are a "shot in the dark".
Bench flashing can be useful to get a project up and running with a base tune, but for fine tuning and/or complex builds, a more advanced tuning method is recommended.
Choosing the Right Option
To help you decide which tuning option is best for your vehicle, consider the following factors:
- Vehicle Modifications: If you have minimal modifications or bolt-on upgrades, bench flashing or street tuning may be sufficient. However, for vehicles with significant modifications, dyno tuning is recommended to ensure optimal performance.
- Convenience and Accessibility: Remote tuning offers convenience as it allows tuning from a distance and without a scheduled appointment. However, it relies on the availability of a compatible remote tuning device and may require additional components such as an aftermarket wideband sensor. The HP Tuners devices can be used to tune multiple vehicles, without the need to purchase additional tuning devices.
- Precision and Fine-Tuning: For the most accurate and precise tuning, dyno tuning provides the highest level of customization and optimization.
