PowerLabs ECM Unlock Service

Some vehicles require a one-time control module unlock service to enable tuning. While this would normally require mailing off your vehicle's control module to HP Tuners headquarters, having the vehicle sit for a number of days, waiting on processing, then reinstalling the module, we offer a much simpler solution. We are proud to be an authorized HP Tuners Dealer and Unlock facility, which means we take care of this all in-house! Whether you're looking for a faster turnaround time or on-site services, we can get you taken care of.

ECM Unlock Only Service

Our unlock-only option will upgrade your ECM to enable tuning. Simply send us your ECM and we’ll send it back to you fully upgraded for tuning.

Note: Keep in mind that with this option, your ECM will be returned to you with the same programming. If you want the ECM to be pre-programmed to a different VIN, this is not the option for you. Please contact us for options before purchasing.

For an original E90/E93 ECM returning to the same vehicle, HP Tuners specifies that an immobilizer relearn, crank relearn and “Replace ECM” function are not required. Replacement-module programming and vehicle-side procedures are not included in this unlock-only service.

Supported Applications

Confirm your year, model, engine and controller before ordering. The unlock, tuning device, licensing credits and calibration are separate items. See the HP Tuners supported vehicle list for current application and device requirements.

Supported GM vehicles with the E90/E93 ECM:

• E90 ECM: 2019-2022 Chevrolet Silverado & GMC Sierra, 5.3L & 6.2L V8 (L84/L87), pre-facelift trucks (non-Global B)
• E93 ECM: 2020-2023 Chevrolet Silverado & GMC Sierra, 6.6L (L8T) / 2021.5 Silverado/Sierra 1500 5.3L

The GM option is for non-Global B controllers only. Supported E90 service numbers: 12690388, 12703685, 12711852 and 12725132. Requires MPVI2 or newer and 6 Universal Credits, sold separately. After upgrade, use HP Tuners for calibration flashing; dealer diagnostic tools still work, but dealer reflash tools and other tuning tools are not supported.

Supported Dodge vehicles with the GPEC2A ECM:

• Supported 2015+ Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep and Ram vehicles equipped with the GPEC2A controller. Verify the controller, not just the model year. GPEC4, GPEC5, Viper and Cummins controllers are not covered by this option.

2018+ Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep and Ram applications also require the HP Tuners Dodge Smart Access Cable. Licensing credits and tuning are sold separately.

Gen 3 EcoDiesel PCM Unlock

Select Ram/Jeep - Gen 3 EcoDiesel for these 3.0L diesel applications:

• 2020-2023 Ram 1500 3.0L EcoDiesel
• 2020-2023 Jeep Wrangler JL 3.0L EcoDiesel
• 2021-2023 Jeep Gladiator 3.0L EcoDiesel

Requires MPVI2 or newer, the Dodge Smart Access Cable and 6 Universal Credits. Hardware, credits and tuning are not included.

Gen 3 EcoDiesel PCMs cannot be read with HP Tuners before the upgrade. This unlock does not program a replacement PCM to your vehicle; contact us before sending a spare or replacement module.

Older EcoDiesel exclusion: 2014-2019 applications with the EDC17C79 PCM do not need this mail-in upgrade. HP Tuners applies the required update during the initial read.

Supported Powersports Vehicles with the MG1 ECM:

These options apply only to the listed MG1-equipped models. A BRP or Polaris/Indian OBDII adapter cable, the appropriate interface, current VCM Suite BETA and vehicle licensing credits are also required. This service does not cover Honda powersports models.

SHIPPING

The customer is responsible for the shipping cost/method when sending the ECM to PowerLabs. Once the order for this service is placed, you will be emailed with further packaging/shipping instructions.

After the ECM arrives at PowerLabs, we will unlock the ECM so it can then be licensed, edited, and flashed with HP Tuners software! The unlock enables HP Tuners tuning after licensing. Calibration-tool compatibility and any remaining vehicle-side requirements depend on the controller; see the application notes above.

Before packaging, remove loose dirt and grime as best as possible without soaking the module or connectors. Keep the module dry, protect its connectors and locking tabs, cushion it securely and include your order number and vehicle information. Modules must be functional and free of damaged connectors or broken locking tabs.

Please allow 1-2 business days (plus the time to ship the ECM) for the unlock process to finish.

Once you receive the ECM back from unlock, re-install the ECM back into the vehicle and then you may tune the ECM with HP Tuners after licensing the ECM.
